FAQ'S
First up! How much is this sh***t?
The total price for just the Part 2 South Africa portion of the trip is APPROXIMATELY $6,190 and the total price for part 1 AND 2 is $8,280 for those flying out of Houston, Texas. This is a little complex so please take the time to read this. We have to make a few assumptions to get to a number that we feel confident in. This number COULD move in our favor or unfavorably. The assumptions made to come up with these prices.
1) Flight costs. The land portion of the trip is actually $4,090 for part 1 and $5,680 for parts 1 & 2. We are estimating ALL Airfare, both international and domestic, to be approx. $2,100 for part one and $2,600 for parts 1 & 2. We feel confident that these are good estimates but as you all know we will not know until it's time to press the button.
2) Conversion Rate. The dollar is strong right now 17.31 Rand to 1 USD. We used 17 Rand to 1 USD as the conversion rate to price this out. This gives us some stability if the dollar weakens some over the next year. If the dollar weakens to less than 17 Rand per USD this will alter the pricing of the things we want to do. If the dollar strengthens your final payment will end up being less than expected.
3) The is the price while all of the rooms are on hold. Which will be for another 2 weeks. After which we will have to reprice everything. The trickiest part of that is the Safari Lodging, there isn't unlimited lodging in the Kruger like it would be in any normal city and rooms book fast. This is a reason not to delay your decision if you are on the fence.
4) This assumes you are paying with cash (or check). Using a credit card adds an additional 3.6% to the cost.
5) These prices include flights from Houston, your total costs could be more or less depending on where you fly out from.
What is the deposit schedule?
The deposit schedule goes as follows.
1) First deposit is $1,000 for Part 2 (South Africa) only and $1,500 for Part 1 and 2 (Egypt and South Africa)
That is due at the moment that you sign up, which will hopefully be in the next two weeks while we have these rooms on hold. This deposit is non refundable for two reasons. 1) It goes to your room in the Kruger which will not be refundable and 2) much of our costs are group sensitive. We would all hate it if we all paid a price based on 16 people, and 2 people cancel last minute and now the 14 people left have to suddenly pay more to make the difference work. The non refundable deposit helps mitigate (not eliminate) that risk.
2) Around November 15th a deposit of $450 is due for everyone. (an exact date will be announced at a later time) This will purchase your flight to the Kruger and from the Kruger. This is a small airplane with limited runs. It's important to purchase them as early as possible, especially for a large group. This is also not a refundable cost.
3) Your third deposit is what I call a floating deposit meaning you can pay it anytime you want. This will be for all of your other flights. If you want to purchase them with points or purchase them on your own you are more than welcome. If you want to purchase the flights through us that is ok as well. Just remember that flights fluctuate and for the price we quoted we have earmarked approx. $1,650 to get from the US to Johannesburg, Johannesburg to Cape Town, and Johannesburg back to the US and have earmarked $2,150 to get from the US to Cairo, Cairo to Johannesburg, Johannesburg to Cape Town, and Johannesburg back home. The timing of when you purchase your flights could impact your total costs. The refund policy of whichever airline you choose will take place here.
4) Your fourth deposit will be due April 1st, 2023. It will be for $1,500 for the South Africa only guests and $2,000 for the Egypt and South Africa guests. These funds will be subject to the refund policy updated shortly.
5) Your firth and final payment will be due July 1st, 2023. It will be for whatever is left over which is currently estimated to be $1,590 for the South Africa only guests and $2,180 for the Egypt and South Africa guests. These funds will also be subject to the refund policy updated shortly.
Should I get travel insurance?
Hell yea! This is too expensive of a trip to not get travel insurance. I will post options here when I finish looking at them.
How do you have time to plan this whole thing?
Though I normally plan all of our trips by myself. This one I used the guidance and advice of Born Free Safari's and Tours. They have been an invaluable help as we have built what will be our greatest Turn Up yet!
